Zohran Mamdani Met His Wife Rama Duwaji on Hinge

Zohran Mamdani has burst into the news as the New York City mayoral primary heats up.
That has a lot of people wondering about his wife and family.
He is married to an artist named Rama Duwaji, and he’s discussed how they met, revealing it was on the dating site, Hinge.
Mamdani shared wedding photos on Instagram, revealing that he married his wife at City Hall in New York, slamming critics in the post.
Decrying the state of politics, Mamdani wrote that he had married “the love of my life, Rama, at the City Clerk’s office.” He added, “Rama isn’t just my wife, she’s an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms. You can critique my views, but not my family.” The photos he shared showed different scenes from their wedding, including the couple sitting on a subway.
Kaneez Surka, an influencer and comedian, shared an interview clip with Mamdani to her Instagram page. Mamdani describes himself on Instagram as a “Democratic Socialist. Assemblymember for Astoria/LIC.” He is running in a crowded June 24 Democratic primary for New York mayor that also includes former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“How are you going to find, single people like myself, find love? How are you going to help me find a man? What use is no-cost childcare when you can’t find a man to have a child with?” she said.
“I found my wife on Hinge, so it still works,” Mamdani responded. “Just to let people know. Second is, I think we also need to give people more time in their lives. A lot of workers are basically on a hamster wheel of anxiety.”
“There’s not much time to sit in the park, there’s not much time to explore your city if you’re always worried if you have enough money to pay your rent. The love of your life might currently be too stressed to find you. Affordability is about romance,” he said.
“I’m out there asking Mayoral candidates important questions – If you’re single in NYC and looking for love, @zohrankmamdani has solid advice,” she wrote. “Watch till the end — you might just find your next first date.”
The Cut reported that Mamdani made little mention of his wife at first before posting about her on Instagram. She is a “Syrian illustrator,” the site reported.
Rama Duwaji “is a Syrian illustrator and animator based in Brooklyn, NYC. Using drawn portraiture and movement, Rama examines the nuances of sisterhood and communal experiences,” her website says.
“Through this lens she has worked with a variety of clients, most notably The New Yorker, The Washington Post, BBC, Apple, Spotify, VICE and the Tate Modern. She has also taught workshops on both illustration and animation alongside It’s Nice That in 2021,” the website bio says.
“Though mostly working in the digital medium, Rama often takes a break from all things technology to create hand built ceramics. She combines her love for illustration and pottery to create handmade, illustrated plates and enjoys sharing these skills through ceramic workshops as well,” it adds.
