Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Reignites Talk of a Presidential Run With Latest Comments

It may be time to kickstart the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for president hype once again. While the popular Hollywood star has previously discussed the possibility of running for president, he recently addressed the topic again, leaving the door wide open for a potential move into politics at some point.

Although Johnson told USA Today he was “seriously considering” running for president of the United States back in 2017, it didn’t come to fruition. However, in 2021, he revisited the topic and said he’d consider it if “that’s what the people wanted,” as USA Today detailed.

While Johnson didn’t go as far as declaring that he’d run in 2028, it’s apparent that the interest, or at the very least the intrigue, is still there.

The Rock Gives the Latest Update on His Interest in Running for President

Considering the support many fans have shown the actor on social media in recent years, it’s not surprising that the idea of a presidential run remains on the table for Johnson. During a recent interview with Variety, The Rock was asked if he thought he’d ever pursue the significant move, and after admitting how much he enjoys acting, the 53-year-old refused to close the door on the possibility.

“It’s wild, man,” Johnson said. “I’m always honored when people ask that. I love what I do. I love storytelling. But yeah…we’ll see.”

While The Smashing Machine star has frequently spoken about his love of acting, it may mean that he’s opting to put a possible presidential run on the back burner. That’s anyone’s guess, but even though Johnson told CBS Sunday Morning in October 2022 that he wouldn’t run in 2024 due to a desire to focus on parenting, we can’t write it off as a possibility in 2028 or 2032, at least for the time being.

Looking Back at Dwayne Johnson’s Past Presidential Comments and Public Responses

The intrigue surrounding the idea of Johnson running for president has remained largely intact since he first floated the idea. As Newsweek detailed in April 2021, a poll released by Piplsay revealed 46 percent of Americans would support the actor running. The Rock even reposted the article with a comment that further fanned the flames.

“Not sure our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve the people,” Johnson wrote.

As recently as August 2025, the odds for the 2028 presidential race listed Johnson with a better chance to win than former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on decentralized betting platform Polymarket, as CoinDesk detailed. Since then, the odds have shifted slightly, with Johnson and Harris both projected to have a four percent chance, behind Gavin Newsom (36 percent), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (11 percent) and Pete Buttigieg (six percent).

Obviously, those percentages are tough to truly gauge at this moment, but should the scenario play out where Johnson does run for president, he’s bound to receive plenty of public support.
