Flight Passengers Served KFC Instead of Airline Food

Airports are usually filled with fast food places, but it’s not every day you get to enjoy one of those meals on the plane. On July 23, passengers on a British Airways flight from the Turks and Caicos to London got some special catering from Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The flight made a stop in Nassau, Bahamas on its journey from the Turks and Caicos capital of Providenciales to Heathrow airport in London. While in Nassau, the airline staff had to improvise to feed their passengers after “unforeseen circumstances” prevented them from serving the in-flight meal as usual. To fight the apparent food shortage on board, they bought food from a nearby KFC to distribute to customers.

“With limited options available at the airport, our teams sprung into action and made sure our customers onboard our flight had something to eat,” the airline said in a pun-laden statement, per Sky News. “We apologize to customers that their full meal service was not available and that we had to wing it on this occasion. We’re sorry if we ruffled any feathers.”

Passengers were given a voucher to feed themselves once they landed in London. But that didn’t stop some flyers from airing their feelings out about the situation once they were on the ground. One Twitter user said “some lucky passengers” got just one piece of chicken. As for what happened to the original food on board, he explained that it had to be discarded because it wasn’t stored at the right temperature. “The container with the plane catering wasn’t chilled so [it was] all thrown away!”

Another user was a bit more pleased about the improvised service: “It was the best KFC I’ve ever had.”

Depending on how you feel about KFC, getting fried chicken instead of a pre-packaged airplane meal for your international flight can either be a blessing in disguise or a hunger-inducing curse. Just don’t be that person who brings strong-smelling food from the airport onto the plane.
