A former standout NBA point guard has passed away at 73 years old this weekend.
Donald “Slick” Watts was a longtime NBA point guard. He played in the league from 1973-79. Watts, who starred collegiately at Grand View and Xavier (Louisiana), played for three different teams – the Seattle SuperSonics, the New Orleans Jazz and the Houston Rockets.
Watts was an NBA First-Team All-Defense performer in 1976. That same year, he led the NBA in assists and steals. Watts was also named the recipient of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, given to the NBA player or coach who does the most in his community, in 1976.
Tragically, Watts passed away at 73 years old over the weekend.
The Seattle Storm posted about Watts’ passing on social media, as the SuperSonics no longer exist.
“We are saddened by the passing of Sonics icon Slick Watts. Slick was a champion for the Storm and a beloved member of the Seattle community. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time,” they wrote.
