Jeremy Renner Is Ready to Return to One of His Most Well-Known Roles

After being introduced to many audiences with his starring role in The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner went on to become a key figure in the Mission: Impossible series. Since his near-fatal snowplow accident last year, Renner has been working on his recovery and eventual return to work—including a possible return to the Mission: Impossible universe. 

In a new interview with Collider, Renner looked back on his departure from the series after starring alongside Tom Cruise in 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. 

“I was supposed to do more with them,” Renner said of his Mission: Impossible castmates. “I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot. It requires a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn’t gonna work out then.”

His character William Brandt retired at the end of Rogue Nation, and though Renner isn’t signed on for the upcoming eighth film due out in 2025, he’s open to returning in future projects. 

“Maybe now that my daughter is older that could happen,” he said. “I’d always jump into a Mission: Impossible anytime and back into Brandt. It’s great.”

On May 30, Renner was announced as one of the stars in Wake Up Dead Man, the third installment in the Knives Out series and his first film role since his accident due out in 2025.
