Today marks one year since the world lost beloved Friends star Matthew Perry, and a lot has happened in relation to the actor’s death in the time since then. Five people were charged in connection to his death back in August, with one doctor pleading guilty earlier this month. Now, a year later, Perry’s parents are looking back on their son’s illustrious life—and his tragic death.
Suzanne and Keith Perry appeared on the Today show on Oct. 28 to remember their son and comment on the ongoing criminal cases related to his accidental drug overdose. Suzanne, for her part, is “thrilled” that those involved are facing accountability. Keith, meanwhile, is looking forward to seeing justice be served.
“What I’m hoping, and I think the agencies that they’ve got involved in this are hoping, is that people who have put themselves in the business of supplying people with the drugs that will kill them, that they are now on notice,” the elder Perry said. “It doesn’t matter what your professional credentials are. You’re going down, baby.”
It’s the least the Perry family can hope for as they continue to grieve the loss of their Matthew. “Even now, something funny will happen—I’ll see something funny or something ridiculous on the news, l go to call him,” Suzanne shared. “I have more freedom of a relationship with him now than I ever did. And then it hits me, then hits me so hard that he’s not there.”
Perry’s Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston also took time today to memorialize her late friend. “One year,” she captioned a throwback Instagram post of the two; she also promoted the Matthew Perry Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people struggling with addiction.
