Ryan Coogler Has Talked to Denzel Washington ‘for a Long Time’ About ‘Black Panther 3’

There may be no single name in Hollywood that draws more attention when they’re linked to a movie than Denzel Washington. The iconic actor has put together one of the most decorated and respected resumes in the world of entertainment, and even most recently starred in a Broadway revival of ‘Othello’ with Jake Gyllenhaal.

So, the big question now is what lies ahead for Washington? He remains just as popular and highly sought after as ever, and from the sound of it, he’s had plenty of conversations about jumping into the Marvel world.

Specifically, Washington has been linked to the popular series Black Panther, with a rumored role in Black Panther 3 being the primary talking point.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, fresh off the red-hot box office run of his movie, Sinners, joined the latest episode of 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, and the topic of Washington came up.

After it was mentioned that Washington had shared details about joining Black Panther 3 and stated he’s a “huge fan” of Coogler, the director addressed the rumors head-on.

When asked if there was a role specifically in mind for Washington and if he’s been writing him in for it, Coogler responded, “Yeah, all of that, all of the above.”

“There’s no fiction out there about that…” Coogler said. “…Denzel is family at this point…I think he’s the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man.”

“I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time. I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it’s not like it’s not true. So much bulls*** gets shared, there’s so much out there that’s false, [so] for there to be a truthful thing out there is fine.”

Coogler added that Washington “said a truthful thing, there’s no lies,” about the duo possibly working together on Black Panther 3.

It’s a strong response from Coogler addressing the rumors, and from the sound of it, the likelihood of Washington joining the Black Panther series is high. As for what role the actor could play, that remains a question mark, but fans should feel optimistic about the chances of seeing Coogler and Washington team up in the future.
