A certain Pennsylvania-based rodent has decreed that there will be an extra six weeks of winter, an unpopular decision that you nevertheless should be prepared for. If you’re looking for a warm jacket to take you through the home stretch of the season, you’ll find that this Backcountry deal on a down jacket from The North Face is particularly well-timed.

The North Face Hydrenalite Down Jacket is on sale in three colors for just $161—$69 less than the $230 it will typically run you. A 30% cut on a 600-fill-power recycled waterfowl down jacket that’s earned dozens of five-star ratings means you’ll be getting more than you paid for if you can snag one at this price. It’s available in sizes small to 2XL in most colors, but we anticipate them to start selling out at this price. If the size you need sells out, we recommend checking The North Face’s site directly.

The outside of this jacket is made of recycled nylon coated with a durable water-repellant finish and the lining is made of a slightly heavier nylon. Between the two lies 600-fill-power recycled waterfowl down, which essentially amounts to a fairly moderate insulatory power, a solid main layer through the winter that will likely need backup with additional layers on polar vortex days. The discounted colorways are a nice mix of options—teal, gray, and yellow—that are more interesting than the ubiquitous black North Face jacket yet neutral enough to be worn day after day.

One satisfied customer wrote that it became their “favorite right out of the box.” They said, “I own more TNF jackets than I should admit, but this one is, by far, the greatest.” From the second they put it on, they were hooked: “The fit is perfect, incredibly warm, not overly puffy but not too thin. I get compliments on it from random people, which rarely happens with any other clothing I wear.”

Many shoppers praised the jacket’s premium quality and comfort. “The jacket is a great fit and very comfortable to wear,” one said. “It provides just the right amount of warmth, making it ideal for winter use. The material is soft and feels great against the skin, adding to its overall comfort.”

As another review put it: “It’s a great jacket, don’t overthink it.” The longer you wait to pick up the North Face Hydrenalite Down Jacket, the less time you’ll have to enjoy it this winter (and the more likely you’ll have to pay more than REI’s current discounted price).
