The Top City for Young & Wealth Americans Is a Northeast Favorite

A study by GoBankingRates has ranked the top American cities for “young and wealthy” people to live, with a Northeast favorite coming out on top.

Cambridge, MA, was found to be the best American city to live if you’re between the ages of 25 and 44 and earn a household income of $150,000 or more. Jersey City, NJ, came in second place while Santa Clara, CA; Hillsboro, OR; and another Massachusetts city, Boston, rounded out the top five. Finishing off the top ten were Sandy Springs, GA; Rochester, MN; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; and Sunnyvale, CA.

Though it only placed once in the top 10, Texas had the most inclusions amongst the 50 cities ranked. Six additional cities in the Lone Star state appeared on the ranking: Richardson at number 18; Denton at 19; Dallas at 28; Irving at 34; Odessa at 42; and Lewisville at 47.

Notably, none of the cities one would normally associate with “young and wealthy” living featured on the list. New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami were nowhere to be found. (Florida didn’t have a single city which broke the top 50.) However, smaller New York and California suburbs like Rochester (number 44) and Sacramento (number 49) managed to make the cut.

To determine the results, GoBankingRates analyzed U.S. Census data in addition to FBI crime data; Sperling’s BestPlaces guide; the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey; and information from the Federal Reserve Economic Data. You can check out the full study here.
