Did the Washington Commanders Really Just Leak New Spider-Man Movie on X?

In the most technologically advanced era in the history of the world, bootlegging films and selling/leaking them on the internet is unfortunately nothing new. However, what is new is an NFL team doing the leaking. On the evening of August 6, the Washington Commanders social media department sent out a post from the football team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account of a two-hour-plus video, claiming it was none other than Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If you aren’t as in tune with pop culture, the newest Spider-Manfilm just hit theaters on July 31 and is getting rave reviews. 

That being said, did the Commanders really leak the new movie? Would they really risk the blowback from both Sony and Marvel, the studios behind the Tom Holland Spiderverse? 

Washington Commanders Actually Just Pulled a Prank

Upon clicking on the video, it becomes evident immediately that it is not the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The biggest giveaway was the fact that it opens up with a Universal Pictures title card, and again, the new Spider-Man movies belong to Sony and Marvel. As the video continues to play, you’ll notice that the full-length film is actually all about the Commanders quarterback, #5 Jayden Daniels. It’s a bunch of footage of him on the field during games and practice, and in the locker room. The movie is obviously geared to get Commanders’ fans hype for the season. Social Media Reaction to Commanders’ Spider-Man Prank

So far, the comments on the post are pretty mixed. While some find the prank pretty humorous, others appear not to have clicked the video and believe it really is the blockbuster hit.
