Everything We Know So Far About 'Gladiator 2'

Gladiator was a global phenomenon when it hit theaters back in 2000, bringing in a whopping total of $503 million at the global box office. In the years since then, fans have been waiting for a sequel, and the team behind the film has been floating the possibility of a follow-up for quite some time.

Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer. Gladiator 2 wrapped filming earlier this year and is on the way.

How long has Gladiator 2 been in the works?

The idea of a Gladiator sequel was first mentioned back in 2001, with much of the original cast and director Ridley Scott expressing excitement about the prospect. Scott continued to offer sporadic updates before development on the project was halted in 2006 when DreamWorks sold the rights to the Gladiator IP to Paramount.

Finally, a sequel was announced in 2018. Filming took place between June 2023 and January 2024.

When is Gladiator 2‘s release date?

Gladiator 2 arrives Nov. 22, 2024. It will open the week before another major blockbuster, Wicked: Part One, on Nov. 27.

Will Gladiator 2 be released in theaters or streaming services?

Because Gladiator was such a massive box office success, it’s likely that the film will debut in theaters rather than streaming services, though plans haven’t been announced yet.

Who is starring in Gladiator 2?

Oscar nominee Paul Mescal joined the movie and will be playing a grown-up version of Lucius from the original movie. He’ll be joined by another actor currently having a moment, Pedro Pascal, as well as a number of actors from the original movie. Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi will be reprising their roles in the sequel, and Djimon Hounsou is also rumored to be returning. Other actors who have been confirmed to join the movie are Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Joseph Quinn, and Matt Lucas, as well as May Calamawy, who’s signed on in the movie’s lead female role.

Perhaps the biggest addition to the cast is two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington. It’ll be his first time working with Ridley Scott since 2007’s American Gangster
