High School Baseball Team Appears on ESPN After Viral Trick Play

High school baseball players leave it all on the diamond when they’re shooting for a victory. A New Jersey high school baseball team is currently going viral for a slick game-winning play that speaks to their skills. 

Delsea Regional High School, located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, faced off against Audubon High School on April 13 in what ended up being quite the tense game. In the game’s seventh and final inning, Delsea was leading 4 to 3 and Audubon and had two outs with runners on first and second base. Delsea pitcher George Starr decided to fake out the Audubon players, appearing to throw the ball to second base and instead running and tagging the Audubon player to win the game. 

The BFA Sports broadcaster admitted that viewers were faked out by the move. “We were all fooled, and the game is over,” he said. “What a way to end it for Delsea. A comeback victory and pulling a rabbit out of a hat to win the game for Delsea.”

“We all thought the ball went in the center. Was it thrown? Was it not?” he added. “What an ending! What a game!”

Delsea coach Joe Smith shared a clip of the play on X and summarized his sentiments succinctly: “Kids sold it perfectly.”

Smith was even more shocked to learn that the moment ended up on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “Definitely never thought I would wake up to this,” he wrote on X with the clip from the show.

Unsurprisingly, Delsea now holds a 5-1 record for the season and is currently one of the best teams in New Jersey’s Tri-County conference.
