'House of the Dragon': 5 Dragon-Sized Questions Ahead of Season 3, Episode 7

House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 sets the stage for a tense and action-heavy conclusion to this outing, and it raises plenty of pressing questions heading into Episode 7. The Game of Thrones spinoff has a lot to wrap up before Season 3’s last two episodes are through. It’s hard to say how far into Fire & Blood this chapter will go, but we can probably assume its ending will further set up Rhaenyra’s downfall and see the Greens making new power plays. SPOILERS ahead for House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6.

Both of those things are set up in “Faceless Men,” which finally makes Emma D’Arcy’s character more like the ruthless queen described in the source material. How she’ll fare with that approach is one of the largest questions looming over House of the Dragon Season 3, Episodes 7 and 8. It’s not the only one, however. In fact, this week’s installment will leave viewers scratching their heads over a few details.

Will Rhaenyra’s More Ruthless Approach to Ruling Backfire?

Rhaenyra Targaryen takes a new approach to ruling in House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6. Not only is she harsher when it comes to Alicent and Helaena, but she also dismisses the commonfolk petitioning her in the throne room. It’s a fitting omen that she cuts herself on the Iron Throne while she’s failing her people. And “Faceless Men” leaves viewers to wonder whether this more detached attitude will backfire on her in the next few episodes. There’s already a lot of unrest in King’s Landing, and now there are no gold cloaks to quell it. The Velaryon men aren’t coming, which ultimately leaves Rhaenyra at the whims of her people. Ignoring their concerns can’t be a good idea under those circumstances.

What Are Those Dragon Eggs Doing at Harrenhal?

In “Faceless Men,” Alys Rivers shows Prince Aemond a clutch of dragon eggs that have been left “cold and abandoned” at Harrenhal. This is an addition unique to the HBO show, and it raises all sorts of questions about what those eggs are doing at the castle…and what larger role they’ll play in the spinoff. It’s very possible that Alys is using her witchcraft to show Aemond something that isn’t quite there. Yet that’s still something House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 7 will need to answer for. And if they are real, we’ll need to know what becomes of them.

Will Alicent Really Try to Kill Aemond?

Another House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 storyline invented for the show is Alicent being sent to kill Aemond — a perplexing turn of events given we’ve never even seen her wield a sword. Hoping to save herself and Helaena, Alicent grudgingly agrees to take on this mission for Rhaenyra. It’s highly unlikely that House of the Dragon will change Aemond’s book fate, however, so that leaves us to wonder whether Alicent will really make the attempt…and what will happen if she does. She might go to Harrenhal and miss him entirely, but House of the Dragon is clearly setting up something with this storyline. We just don’t quite know what.

What Will Happen to Lord Corlys Velaryon?

Lord Corlys Velaryon is attacked at the end of House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6, and it raises questions about what will become of Steve Toussaint’s character now. This doesn’t happen in the source material, though Corlys is imprisoned around this time in Fire & Blood — just by Rhaenyra instead of the Greens. After he breaks from Rhaenyra’s cause, he ends up working with the Greens. It’s possible House of the Dragon is still heading toward the same endgame for his character but taking a different route to get there. Being captured by Lord Ormund Hightower will put him in a position to negotiate with the other side of the Dance. However, it’s just as possible the Game of Thrones spinoff is setting up an entirely new narrative and conclusion for the character.

Will Rhaenyra and Daemon Finally Retaliate Against Tumbleton?

Everyone’s patience is wearing thin with Ormund Hightower, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time until Rhaenyra and Daemon genuinely retaliate. The season is building to an attack on Tumbleton, and it feels like it has to happen in Episode 7 or 8. All the pieces are placed, and House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 once again raises the tensions between Rhaenyra and Ormund. If she does burn the city, we have to hope a few characters make it out…Daeron Targaryen, Gwayne Hightower, and Kat included.
