Idris Elba Shares Strange Secret Trick to Late-Night Cravings

When it comes to late-night cravings, one person you can expect to not see raiding the fridge is Idris Elba. The actor and DJ spoke about his health habits in a new interview with GQ and shared some of his secrets to curbing the need for a midnight feast.

Elba, who is of Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean descent, admitted that he enjoys eating a lot of African food. “The problem is that it’s typically carb-heavy, and since I’m not on carbs at the moment, I’m not eating African food,” he confessed. As for when he gets hungry before bed, he has a specific tactic.

“If I get home any later than 9 p.m., I don’t eat, and I’ll go to bed hungry,” he said. “I will make sure to have a teaspoon of high-quality honey, though. That usually curbs any hunger pangs, and I’ll sleep all through the night when I do that. Then when I wake up in the morning, my metabolism really kicks in.”

The avid kickboxer admitted that it was something he came up with himself with the help of some professional medical advice. “When I was training for a fight back in 2016, I worked with multiple nutritionists and learned all about managing cortisol levels in the body. Honey was a really good food to help with that,” he said.

Raw honey is packed with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and enzymes, making it an ideal choice when looking to satisfy any sweet craving, whether it be in your morning tea or a snack right before bed.
