Michelle Trachtenberg Called Iconic Role 'My Favorite Character That I've Played'

Michelle Trachtenberg had already appeared in multiple ads as a toddler even before she landed her breakthrough role on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete in 1994. In 2000, at the age of 14, she joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s lead role.

However, it wasn’t until 2008 that Trachtenberg played the role that she held dearest to her heart. This was after she landed the part of Georgina Sparks on the teen drama Gossip Girl.

Georgina is a chaotic socialite from Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She is the longtime friend/enemy of one of the main characters, Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively.

Trachtenberg appeared as Georgina through all six seasons of the show. The acrtess also reprised the role in the HBO Max revival series in 2022.

In a 2021 interview with ET, Tratchenberg shared how her Gossip Girl villain stands out as her favorite role.

“Georgina is actually my favorite character that I’ve played because she’s such an evil B-I-T-C-H,” she said. “That was fun.”

The Wrap named Trachtenberg’s Georgina as one of the most memorable roles in her career, calling it “iconic.”

“Trachtenberg brought both the sass and cutthroat edge needed to wreak havoc on Serena’s life when she is first introduced, as well as the naivety and clueless innocence needed to pull off Georgina’s transformation into a reformed trouble maker who found Jesus,” The Wrap wrote.

How Hayden Panettiere and Michelle Trachtenberg Were Connected  

Trachtenberg died on February 26, 2025, inside her New York City apartment. It was later reported that she died of natural causes due to complications of diabetes mellitus. She was 39.

On Sunday, news broke that Hayden Panettiere died at the age of 36. As of this writing, her official cause of death has not been made public.

Trachtenberg’s name resurfaced following Panettiere’s death on Sunday. The connection stems from their 2005 Disney movie Ice Princess.

In the beloved coming-of-age classic, Trachtenberg played Casey Carlyle, a brilliant high school student whose pursuit of a Harvard scholarship takes a back seat to her dream of becoming a competitive figure skater.

Panettiere portrayed Gen Harwood, Casey’s ice skating rival, who eventually becomes her friend.

Tributes poured in after Panettiere’s death on Sunday, with plenty of fans reminiscing about the time they co-starred in Ice Princess. Their deaths at just 36 and 39 stirred a wave of nostalgia among viewers who grew up watching the 2005 Disney classic.
