There are myriad ways you can give the dad in your life a thoughtful gift for father’s day, but I like to focus on getting items that a dad wouldn’t get himself. This approach takes an extra layer of thoughtfulness and shows that you not only know what they want, but also that they deserve a quality item that they have chosen to do without.
Speedland HSV ($375)
Yes, you read that price tag correctly. But, if your budget allows, you should buy the trail-running dad in your life this $375 pair of shoes—there’s simply nothing like them on the market. From our testing, this pair is worth it. One of our testers ran in them for 117 miles and said that thanks to the Pebax midsole foam, carbon plate, and Michelin outsole, that they’re an appropriate gift for this special occasion. But the true secret sauce is their adjustability. “The on-the-fly, two-way adjustable Boa dials means no numb feet on the climbs and with just a few tightening clicks, no lost toe nails on the descents,” he said.

I love giving someone a piece of gear they’ll use many times over the course of a day, every day, for years. Premium materials, a fabulous feeling handle, and a super light weight deliver a better user experience than the majority of other everyday carry knives.

Underwear is a potentially awkward Father’s Day gift. But he’ll be so blown away by these that it won’t matter a bit. We’ll spare you the details of the specific support system, but just know it is incredible for athletes and couch-loungers alike. And the modal these are built from is as supple as fabric gets. How many guys do you know that splurge on expensive underwear? That’s what we thought.
Gerber Bushcraft Hatchet ($70)
Does the dad in your life like to watch Alone? If they do, I promise you they’d like to give bushcraft a try but might be too embarrassed to buy the gear. Gerber’s Bushcraft is built to cut efficiently and minimize fatigue over extended use and has room in the handle for paracord and fire starting material. In testing, we found it to be a lightweight kindling-creating machine for normal car camping trips, just in case building a shelter isn’t in your father’s future.
Jacobsen Salt Co Grilling Trio ($30)
The right salt makes a huge difference in how well a meal can turn out. But it’s hard to make the jump into finishing salts if you’re used to normal table salt. If your dad or partner likes to cook, blow their mind with this Trio (and you honestly can’t go wrong with anything from this bespoke brand). Once they use Jacobsen’s premium flaked salt to finish off a grilled steak or portabella mushroom, they will never go back.
Holy Grail Steak Company Burger Lab ($99 for three months)
If you want to get him some meat this Father’s Day, this premium patty subscription from Holy Grail is a slam dunk. I tested a month’s subscription and made audible pleasure noises every single time I ate one. I’ve made thousands of burgers in my life, and I can say that, to a burger, these were the best I’ve ever made. My father-in-law said that the 50/50 American Wagyu Kurobuta Pork number I grilled for him a few weeks ago was the best he’s ever had—and he’s 75 and a serious enthusiast too.
