'Reacher' Season 4, Episode 5 Cliffhanger Proves Jack's Big Mistake Just Got Even Worse

In Episode 4 of Reacher Season 4, the biggest twist from the original Lee Child book, Gone Tomorrow, was made clear. If you’re still not caught up on Reacher Season 4, then it’s probably best to stop reading. But if you have just watched Season 4, Episode 5, “Bridge,” then you know that the cruel twist from last week is, in a way, only the beginning. With Episode 5, Jack Reacher’s mistake in judgment has made everything way worse than it was before.

So, what does the ending of this episode mean for the rest of the season? Let’s unpack Reacher Season 4, Episode 5, complete with some insight from series star Agnez Mo. Spoilers ahead.

Reacher admits “I got it wrong”

The top of this episode finds Reacher (Alan Ritchson) learning from Tamara (Sydelle Noel) and Jacob (Christopher Marquette) that Lila (Agnez Mo) and Amisha Hoth (Anggun) are, in fact, assassins and responsible for numerous deaths, including the murder of Jacob Merrick’s nephew, Ben. Although Reacher has been getting cozy with Lila Hoth, thinking she needed protection, here he says outright, “I got it wrong.” This is Reacher’s moment, not unlike when Sherlock Holmes realizes he’s been tricked by Irene Adler in the famous story “A Scandal in Bohemia.” But, in that case, Adler was only a blackmailer and a master of disguise. Lila Hoth skins people alive with a curved knife.

During a top-secret 2025 set visit during the filming of Reacher Season 4, Men’s Journal heard directly from Lila actress Agnez Mo about how she approached this twist with her character. Turns out, she loved this revelation, and not just because she got to play a baddie, but because the twist says just as much about Reacher himself as it does about Lila.

“What I like about the discovery part of this is that it’s not just about the other characters, but it’s about Reacher,” Mo said. “You could see that he almost could fall for Lila. And I think that’s interesting, because we didn’t really see that in the other seasons. It feels like early on, Reacher is like: ‘Oh, do I actually fall for this lady?’ But of course, actually not, because she’s the main killer.”

The actress also noted that the evolution of Lila’s wickedness is something she worked on with regular Reacher series director, Sam Hill. And that part of discovering Lila was figuring out what kind of villain she really was, and it turns out, Lila contains multitudes. “We discover from scene to scene who Lila is,” Mo explained. “Is she more of the psychotic villain, or is she more like a sociopath? Or is she more like the flirtatious? I sort of played around with all of that even within just one scene.”

Reacher Episode 5 ending suggests not everyone is going to make it out alive

After getting arrested by the Philly PD, escaping, getting fake-arrested again, and going on a massive Bond-movie-esque chase in the city itself, Reacher, Jacob, and Tamara end up in a full-on stand-off with the Hoths. But this time, the Hoths are holding Jacob hostage.

Tamara wanted Jacob to stand down after what happened to his nephew, but he didn’t listen. Now, in the final moments of the episode, Amisha has a knife to Jacob’s throat, and if Tamara and Reacher don’t surrender and give up the thumb drive (which Reacher thinks is worthless anyway), Jacob will get killed.

The thing is, at this point, Reacher Season 4 has altered its plot enough from the original book that literally anything can happen. Reacher himself probably won’t die. (We know he needs to have a cameo in Neagley, and Season 5 is already filming.) But at this point, thanks to Lila and Amisha’s brutal single-mindedness, anything is possible, and nobody is safe.
