The Glenturret's New Scotch Is Rare, Luxurious, and Surprisingly Old

In partnership with luxury British automaker Jaguar, Scotland’s oldest working distillery The Glenturret has released a limited-edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Few British automobiles hold the prestige of the Jaguar C-Type. Sold only from 1951 to 1953, the vehicle made its indelible mark on motorsport history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1953, when it finished first, second, fourth, and ninth. It became the first car to break the 100 mph average barrier.

Since then, the vehicle has only grown in value. In 2012, a C-Type sold at the Pebble Beach auction for $3,725,000. And in August 2015, the C-Type driven by Peter Whitehead and Ian Stewart to fourth at the 1953 Le Mans race fetched an astonishing $13.2 million at auction in California.

To create a single-malt Scotch that celebrates the 70th anniversary of the C-Type, The Glenturret whisky maker Bob Dalgarno drew from a combination of five casks: four oloroso sherry-seasoned European oak hogsheads and a single Pedro Ximénez sherry-seasoned American oak hogshead.

The resulting 32-year-old whisky (quite old indeed!) features aromas of sweet ginger and cinnamon, with notes of treacle and apple. The palate finds flavors of wood spices, ginger cake, dates, and raisins followed by notes of licorice. The finish is long, featuring a mix of sweet fruit and soft oak.

Bottled at 42.3 percent ABV, just 220 bottles of The Glenturret x Jaguar C-Type single malt are available for $2,805 each, and sold exclusively via The Glenturret’s website.
