Lionel Messi is set to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday when Argentina, looking to repeat as tournament champions, takes on Spain.

Almost certainly in attendance for the match will be Messi’s longtime wife and childhood sweetheart, Antonela Roccuzzo.

Messi and Roccuzzo’s Relationship History

Roccuzzo and Messi have a long history together after first meeting as children through a relative before reconnecting in 2005.

Interestingly, Roccuzzo went on to study dentistry at the National University of Rosario before dropping out after six months to move to Barcelona, Spain, when she was 19 years old to be closer to Messi. That move kickstarted their relationship.

The couple officially married in 2017 after welcoming their first two children together.

Thiago was born in 2012, Mateo followed in 2015, and after their marriage, they welcomed their third child, Ciro, in 2018.

Roccuzzo’s Social Media Presence

While Roccuzzo doesn’t have the 513 million Instagram followers that her husband does, she has built a massive social media following of her own while documenting her personal journey and family life.

She currently has 41.3 million followers on Instagram, has pursued modeling, and regularly shares glimpses into her life with Messi and their three sons.

Messi Speaks on Home Life

Ahead of this year’s World Cup, Messi explained that he sees himself as a normal person away from the spotlight. When he returns home, he tries to be the same husband and father that he has always been.

“Obviously, when I enter into my house, with my family, I try to be a normal dad, a normal husband, like anybody else,” Messi said.

I am beyond everything else that happens to me — the fame [and] the recognition — I may have outside. Inside my house, I am a very normal person.”

Messi Admires His Wife Antonela

During a 2019 interview with Marca, Messi made it clear how much he admires his wife and everything she brings to his life.

“The truth is that [I admire] everything. She has many good qualities: how she gets by on a daily basis; her personality; she is always in a good mood; and she always faces up to problems in an admirable way. She is a very intelligent person who is great in all aspects of life.”
